GULF ISLANDS
The

Montague Harbor, Gulf Islands, BC

To Nanaimo

A treaty between the U.S. and Canada drew an imaginary line across Puget sound that separated the Gulf Islands from the San Juans, but the cozy harbors and pine covered landscape seem very much the same. Only the new money and a different way to say “about” reminded us that we were now in British Columbia. We have almost mastered the art of picking up a mooring on a crowded wharf, but learning to predict the extreme tides and rapid currents of Gulf Islands are now equally important. It is now late August and since we want to reach the more remote northern islands before the weather changes, our stay here will be brief.
