barging on the midi canal
with friends

Touring southern France on a canal barge was one of our favorite trips. The images below gives you the general idea of what canal cruising is like. What the slides don’t show, however, is that the speed limit on the Midi Canal is 5 mph. So, sit back and relax like we did and enjoy the scenery with Jim and Norma Crandall, Kay and Larry Einhorn and Leo and Martha Pedersen.

Afterword: The “barge” was a comfortable 43’ fiberglass cabin cruiser with helms both inside the cozy salon and above on the spacious sun deck. It also had three en suite staterooms, a well-equipped galley, and a roomy dining area. The cruise was  roughly between the ancient city of Carcassonne and the historic hilltop town of Beziers, a distance of about 100 kilometers.
