In 2005, after a post-flight decompression in Baveno on Lake Maggiore, we drove east toward Venice where we planned to spend a few days exploring the less-visited piazzas and back streets of that legendary island. On the way, we stopped overnight in Padova, a city  that deserves much more time, but the more photogenic Venice won out.
